Life Sculpture

Jennett's Park, Bracknell

Lucy Glendinning

Commissioned by: Persimmon Homes and Redrow Homes (Southern)

Project Overview

Architectural metalwork company, m-tec, fabricated the eight metre high ‘life’ sculpture which was designed by Lucy Glendinning. The triangular base of the sculpture was fabricated using brushed stainless steel and the figure using aluminium resin, which was then lacquered with a blue finish.

As the sculpture is located in Jennett’s Park, the name and the leaf logo was laser cut (by sister company WEC Laser) into the base of the sculpture, which is illuminated at night.

Artist's Vision

Artist Lucy Glendinning aimed to create a sculpture with an uplifting presence for the residence of Jennett’s park. The brief for the piece was to have an element of directing people into the housing development.

Lucy Glendinning said: “This was a challenging site as there was very little surrounding the piece and on the middle of a roundabout the road creates a barrier. Surrounded by road lights and traffic signs there seemed a lot to compete with.

“I wanted to make a piece, which made you look above the cars and stood out from the lighting columns and signage. A sculpture which gives a sense of control through the feeling of balance, but being a bit like a marker, a stick in the ground, marking the spot on a map."
